Detailing

Protection Detail

This detail is designed to serve as a thorough spring clean for your car, and comprises the following major tasks. We start out by using a foaming wash procedure to safely and effectively remove all traces of loose dirt and grime from the bodywork, wheels, arches and jambs. The engine bay is also washed at this stage. We then clay the bodywork and exterior glass to remove any bonded surface contaminants such as tar and tree sap, which leaves these surfaces feeling perfectly smooth. Lastly is the application of two coats of a high quality synthetic sealant to the bodywork; this not only adds valuable protection against the elements for up to six months at a time, but also significantly enhances the appearance of the paint. On darker colours, we can substitute one coat of sealant for a glaze that when applied, will help mask minor swirling and add depth and wetness to the paint This is then topped with one coat of synthetic sealant that will give up to four months of protection. We then complete the exterior detail by sealing the wheels and glass, dressing the tires and engine bay, and polishing the exhaust tips if applicable. Finally, we clean and vacuum the interior, and carefully feed the leather seating surfaces. The entire procedure typically takes around 8 hours and can usually be completed in a single day.

Correction Details

Instead of getting your car expensively resprayed, which may even affect its originality and resale value, why not ask about Autowerkes' paintwork correction service?

Paintwork Correction is the skilled art of actually removing blemishes from your vehicles paintwork, not just merely masking them with fillers and is achieved through a time consuming and meticulous machine-polishing program. This process is not to be confused with 'mopping' offered by bodyshops or by some detailers. Done correctly this process can take between 15 - 20+ hours alone depending on the defect level, paint type and vehicle size. Be wary if it is claimed that a full detail including paint correction can be completed in 1 day - corners will be cut; usually in areas that aren't immediately obvious. The use of an over aggresive compound that removes a lot of paint could be used to speed things up. This is not the correct way to achieve safe defect removal. If you are considering Paint Correction then please ensure it is done right first time as mistakes by others cannot always be rectified. Autowerkes will not compromise on correction work and it is always completed thoroughly and to the highest standard. Therefore our correct and protect detail will take around 2 days to complete for lightly compromised paintwork. For more severe swirling typically found on neglected or older cars then 3-4 days may be required.

By using specialist tools and high end products not typically available to the average enthusiast, it is possible to remove things like swirls, buffer trails, holograms and oxidation. Minor scratches and micro marring can even be totally and safely eliminated. This also restores dull or faded paintwork to its original glory, as light can be perfectly reflected from this newly un-oxidised and re-levelled surface, before any polishes, cleansers and waxes are applied. The process starts with us measuring your paint with an electronic paint thickness gauge. A typical factory paint job will have between 110 and 130 microns of paint. Polishing your paint to achieve over 95% correction will only reduce the overall thickness of your paint by 4-5 microns so paint integrity is never compromised.

This is a skilled process and takes years to perfect. Working the polish for too short a time will leave buffer trails and hazy paint as well as not actually removing the original paint defects. Working the polish for too long can lead to the paint overheating, getting too thin and in some extreme cases, burning through to the undercoat. Autowerkes Exclusive however have proven time and time again on a variety of different paint types and finishes that we do have the skills required to leave a perfect finish. Customers who have experienced this service often compare its effect to a full respray – at a fraction of the cost and inconvenience. And some have even said that the paintwork looks better than when it was new.

Single Stage Paintwork Correction

This detail is designed for brand new and nearly new vehicles with minor paint defects in need of correction and is inclusive of everything outlined above for the Protection Detail plus a single stage machine polishing process. At this point you may be asking why on earth would we need to machine polish a brand new or nearly new car?! Sadly, it is all too common for brand new vehicles to be delivered to customers with any number of defects present in the bodywork, such as fine marring and polishing holograms leftover from the production line. It is equally disappointing that many dealerships do not have the time or skills available on-site to correct these defects properly prior to delivery. Instead, all that is typically offered is a basic cleaning (which often does more harm than good) and a low quality 'lifetime' protection package. We are happy to take on preparation work for new car deliveries and ensure that you receive your vehicle in perfect condition with the very best surface protectants applied from the outset. This service is also ideal for nearly new cars that have acquired light wash marring and feint swirl marks during their first six to twelve months of life, and for cars regularly detailed by us that only need a light annual polish. The entire procedure typically takes between 12-16 hours and can usually be completed in two days.

The cost for a single stage polish including the Protection Detail is:

CARS 12-14 hours $525
TRUCKS 14-16 hours $645

Two and Three Stage Polishes

This detail is designed for vehicles with more severe paint defects and is inclusive of everything outlined above for the Protection Detail, plus correction of defects such as heavy swirl marks, light scratches and etching caused by bug remains and bird droppings. This is done by conducting a highly intensive two or three stage machine polishing process, which removes a small percentage of the uppermost layer of paint on the car in order to reveal a fresh layer of unblemished paint beneath. We can usually guarantee full correction of > 95% of the paint defects present (note that total paint thickness is sometimes a limiting factor) and typically require between 24-32 hours to complete such details, necessitating that the work is spread over three - four days. By restoring the condition of the bodywork to near perfect condition, the high cost of this detail is usually fully offset by the positive effect on the residual value of the vehicle in question.

The Two Stage Polish will typically take at least three days and also includes the Prototection Detail. The cost to provide this service is:

CARS 18-20 hours $675
TRUCKS 22-24 hours $825

The Three Stage Polish will take 4 days to complete. The cost to provide this service including the Protection Detail will be:

CARS 25-30 hours $995
TRUCKS 28-32 hours $1125
